Need a last minute gift or a Covid-safe holiday activity? This traditional, German-inspired Christmas market sits directly in the heart of Philadelphia, right outside of City Hall. Here you can find tons of great eats and gifts all coming from small businesses in the greater Philadelphia area. Check out this annual market from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve.
Beginning with her daughter’s lemonade booth at the Lansdowne farmers market, Charisse McGill started a french toast business that took on a life of its own. The mother-daughter duo joined together to create Lokal artisan foods, under which they both run their food booths. French Toast Bites is a Black owned, small business that has become extremely popular in Philadelphia, and will hopefully gain a storefront of its own in the near future.
Warm, gooey Raclette cheese smeared on a fresh baguette makes for a great meal on a cold day. “Raclette Stube“ is located in the Love Park section of Philadelphia’s Christmas Village, upholding the German roots that the village is based upon.
Honoring the Black Lives Matter movement, this 50-foot tree can be found right outside city hall. The 60-year-old white fir from Yule Tree Farms made its journey to Philadelphia all the way from New York.
Peering through the arches of City Hall, in the center of the courtyard, is the famous City Hall Carousel. Stop here for a great photo or a throwback to your childhood!
This hand drawn art is painted completely with coffee by Philadelphia artist Carol Stamper. Find her @stamperart on Instagram.
These glass Christmas ornaments at the “Unique Ornaments” booth traveled all the way from Egypt.
It’s always fun to explore the inside and outside of City Hall. Featured is the external architecture and a landmark inside titled “Corner Stone of the Public Buildings of the City of Philadelphia”.
Make sure you head to Philadelphia’s Christmas village every year to support local PA businesses and artists while spreading some holiday cheer!
